Hi GrlyGrl,

I am a Reference Librarian. It will take me a few minutes to

research your question.

I found some recipes on About.com's Beauty page...

Homemade Clay Mask for All Skin Types Recipe Ingredients:

* 陆 tsp kaolin clay

* 1陆 tbsp aloe vera gel

* 1 tbsp rosewater

* 2 drops rose essential oil

Preparation:

Mix green and kaolin clays together.

Add in the aloe vera gel, rosewater and oils.

Refrigerate mixture for up to four weeks.

Yogurt Face Mask for All Skin Types

Prep Time: 2 hours,

Ingredients:

* 1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not lowfat or non-fat)

* 1 tsp runny honey (microwave for a few minutes to soften hardened honey)

Preparation:

Combine mixture, then apply to face.

Let sit for 15 minutes.

Wash face with steaming washcloth.

For dry skin, use an extra tsp of honey.

Oily skin? Add a few drops of fresh lime juice.

DIY Skin-Firming Mask

1. To start, add one tablespoon of water, green tea, or milk to a small bowl. Gradually add 2 tbs of fine clay powder to the liquid, stirring to prevent clumps. You should aim for a smooth paste; if it's too thick or too runny, add a few drops of water or a little more clay to achieve the desired consistency.

2. Using your fingers, apply a thick layer of the paste to clean, dry skin, avoiding the eyes and lips. Sit back and relax while the mask dries, staying as still as possible so the clay doesn't crack and crumble off.

3. After 10 to 12 minutes, rinse with warm water.

4. Pat dry with a fluffy towel and follow with a natural toner and a light moisturizer to soften and nourish skin throughout the day.

Difficulty level: Easy

From my personal experience, there are a thousand different recipe combinations that you can create for a homemade facial. A few hints;

egg or clay are both firming and moisturizing

oatmeal or sugar are both exfoliating and deep cleansing

milk and yogurt are both moisturizing

You can find several books on this at your local bookstore or library. I recommend Natural beauty at home : more than 250 easy-to-use recipes for body, bath, and hair by Janice Cox, and The ultimate natural beauty book : 100 organic beauty products to make and use easily at home by Josephine Fairley.

Happy exfoliating!

What type of mask would you like? My favorite one is an egg mask. All you have to do is separate a couple egg yolks from the eggs. You discard the yolks and dab the egg whites all over your face with a cotton ball or your fingers. The protein in eggs is very good for your skin. You will feel the mask tighten after a few minutes. Leave it on for about 20.

One extra ingredient for this mask if you have it. If you put a little red wine in the egg whites it's supposed to make your skin extra vibrant. I don't have any red wine sitting around so I normally just make the egg mask. It is supposed to be anti-aging and rejuvenating. It helps get rid of fine lines and wrinkles (and also helps stop them from forming... which is why I use it.)

Hope that helps! You can do this mask every day if you want to and it wont hurt a thing :)
try this:1 cup oatmeal

1 tb vinegar

3/4 cup milk

2 tb honey

1/2 tomatoe

1 banana

mix and apply

i found it a few weeks ago and it made my face feel silky smooth.

also a paste of water and baking soda, though simple, will do the trick. i've also done one with just an egg white and though it smelled weird, it made my skin feel gret.
well you can mix a little bit of sugar (you don't need a lot at all) with any cleanser that you use to make it exfoliating.
Oatmeal and milk, mixed to a paste consistency, is a good one!
