I'm guessing you want a full head deal. It's messy but use paper mache. You can use balloons and cardboard to get you basic shapes. After it dries you can either paint it or cover it with felt or whatever you want.Any ideas how to make a 3D donkey mask?

the best way would be to use a cheap face mask from an art shop, then use folded cardboard for the frame of the donkey shape and attach it to your face mask, then apply papeir mache to get the right shape and paint
